How we work
ayu.co sits between you and the workshops in Jepara. We do not own a factory. We choose the workshop for each job, agree the price and the standard with them, check the work, and handle the shipping.
How we choose workshops
We visit every workshop before it makes anything for our buyers. We look at:
- its SVLK (V-Legal) timber licence, or the licence of the exporter it ships through
- how it dries wood, and what the moisture meter reads on stock in the yard
- finished pieces on the floor: joints, carving, finish
- how much it can make in a month, and how it has handled export orders before
Workshops are good at different things. One does fine carving, another does clean modern casegoods in volume. Matching the job to the workshop is most of the work.
Why order through us rather than direct
You can buy direct from Jepara, and some buyers do. What goes wrong is usually the same: the sample is good and the production run is not, the wood was not dry, or the papers are missing at the port.
Our job is to stop those things happening. We are in Indonesia, we speak the language, and we check each order before it is packed.
The workshops
We are adding profiles of the workshops we work with, with their agreement. We do not publish their contact details: orders go through ayu.co, which is how we can stand behind the work.
